It is our first time to drive abroad. Concerning on the weather and road conditions of the Iceland, we decided to choose the company of "Reykjavik rent a car". Of course, you can make your choice based on your experience and budget as well.

It took 5 minutes to take the car and only 1 minute for returning back. While returning, the staff just checked the body of the car shortly and asked whether we refilled the oil.

There is two options for the SCDW.
- In the cover of insurance, no matter how the damage degrees/extents are, you don't have to pay anymore (0 ISK).
- It gets the deductible. Once the damage can't be all supported from the insurance, you need to pay 75,000 ISK at most additionally or 2,350 ISK each day.
We chose the first option of SCDW and one extra driver. In addition, for the case in Taiwan, you need to change your driving licence to the international one before going abroad. If you choose to have 2 extra driver, which means all of you three need to go with international driving licence. Some Car rental company would check it while picking up.
Furthermore, we watched the Iceland chapter of a variety show made by South Korea, Friends over Flowers. We really recommend it before going abroad. After watching it, you may know more about Iceland, realize what may happen while driving, more expect for the Iceland tour, and just can't wait to see the aurora!
From the show, we know that one may still involve in the risk of gravel damage on windshield due to the incoming car even in winter. So we chose the GP(Gravel Protection) insurance as well. In fact, on the way to the vik town of the Iceland, some incoming cars, like jeeps and trucks, repressed the gravel indeed and it jumped to our car several times.

Some of you may find out that we choose to return the car in Reykjavik.
There is a branch of the company there. In fact, the location of this branch is not in the main downtown. It is about 7.5 kilometers away from city center.
Because we plan to leave two days to walk or travel around the urban districts of Reykjavikby bus, we choose to return the car here.
We chose to pick up the car at the airport and then drove ahead for the downtown of Reykjavik and Blue Lagoon as many people did.
We suggest you can exchange some changes(ISK) or buy a one-day tickt for the bus at bus station or tour center at the same time. Once returning the car at the branch of Reykjavik rent a car, the suburban areas, you can take a bus to the downtown.
In Iceland, you can pay for almost everything by a credit card. For the reason, we didn't prepare any changes(ISK) and have no way to buy a one-day ticket on holiday. Besides, it can ONLY PAY BY CASH when you want to go by bus. The staff assisted us to call a taxi back to Hallgrimskirkja.
For your reference, it took 3,600 ISK for about 7.5 kilometers .
The rented car is Hyundai ix35 with diesel fuels.
It would cost less while refilling. The price is more cheaper than gasoline's.
Furthermore, it is with the constant speed function. We really recommend for this.
While driving around Iceland, it usually takes at least one ore two hours for a scenic spot.
With this function, you would be more relax (may be it is you feet) and are away from the risk of over speed.

But be sure to inquire whether it accepts the policyholder from Taiwan or your countries in advance. For our knowledge from the Internet, some would not accept to insure from Taiwan......
